Danae Dade Le Vesconte, Cookie&Biscuit

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Danae Dade Le Vesconte and I am Founder & baker lady at Cookie&Biscuit. I livein West Dulwich and I am mum to FJ (aged 3.5) and a bump due in December 2015.

What is your Cookie&biscuit and why did you set it up?

Cookie&Biscuit is a small batch vegan organic home bakery which specialises in wholesome ingredients such as spelt flour and unrefined sugars. I set it up in April 2013 because I wanted healthier treat options for my toddler. At first the business wasn’t 100% vegan, but I saw a gap in the market and as my dietary choices changed, I changed the business to fall in line. New items are added to the online shop all the time, and I take special orders for items not listed (or dietary –ie gluten free, nut free etc)

How do you balance running a business with motherhood?

Time management for me is all down to planning and to do lists. Some weeks I have to do lists for my to do lists! I also have a full time senior management job in fashion, so I need to juggle my c&b tasks with military like precision. My husband is a huge help with FJ, so I can get a lot done in the evenings and on the weekends. I used to do farmer’s markets and special events, but I had to take a break especially as the bump gets bigger.

What do you love about SE London and particularly being a mother here?

I love how chill and accessible it is, especially as a mother. Great parks and pubs within walking distance, and of course the Horniman museum is the best for kids. Also I have the best neighbours, it helps to be surrounded by nice people!

Can you share one secret tip to other mothers in this area?

I don’t know if I could narrow it down to just one! I think besides the usual great cafes and parks, I did the intro 30 day yoga special at The Shala in West Norwood and it was one of the best yoga studios I have been to since moving here from NYC 4 years ago. No matter how busy a mama’s life may be, it is so important to take time out for yourself. I never feel guilty about a few hours a week to myself, happy mama= happy life.
