Being a mother is a life changing experience. Almost overnight we lose our sense of identity, our personal space and time, all of which can leave us ungrounded, lost and worried. So many of us try to be a ‘perfect’ mother, but our amazing abilities to multi-task can leave us thoroughly breathless in our efforts. From here, anger, depression, over reactiveness is just a step away.
But what exactly does it mean to be a perfect mum?
To fully embrace motherhood, without guilt, regret or resentment we need to learn to let go. Let go of the stories we tell ourselves, the stories of what we should or shouldn’t be. Let go of judgment and criticism and instead invite more acceptance and openness.
Maybe being a perfect mum means taking time to look after ourselves so that we can truly and fully show up for our family, friends and work?
The Mamahood is so happy to be collaborating with yoga teacher (and mama) Ashka to offer a yoga workshop exclusively for our local mamas.
WHAT WILL IT COVER?
This workshop will be a space for you to switch off and reconnect, to pause and reflect, to nourish and restore depleted energy and soothe emotions,. This is a small time away from family so that you can give yourself that same undivided attention you try to give your children every day.
We will take time to reflect on how our lives have changed and the effect it’s had on us; what we gained but also what is it that we have lost. We will see how accepting change and being able to adapt can create a more harmonious and balanced life.
This will be a very practical workshop. Our emotions and thoughts directly affect our bodies creating deep tension in the muscles and in the breath. As we move through a series of Yoga postures, Asanas, we will explore our breath, body and mind breaking through the patters of tension and holding, inviting more space, openness and acceptance. We will literally learn to let go. The session will finish with deep, restful and soothing relaxation followed by seated mediation to establish stillness, clarity and focus.
WHO IS IT FOR?
This workshop is open to all mums including mums-to-be who are in at least 2nd trimester of their pregnancy. If you are an expectant mother please contact me beforehand to discuss modifications and precautions. It is an open level class suitable to complete beginners.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING ALONG?
Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water and a little snack.
The cost is £30 and spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
WHO IS THE TEACHER?
Ashka is a 200hrs Yoga Alliance registered teacher in London running group and private classes in SE and SW London teaching teenagers, adults and yoga for sports (runners, cyclists)
'I was introduced to yoga whilst training to be a dancer and found solace in yoga's non competitive, non judgmental approach to practice. Yoga helped me grow stronger, more flexible but most importantly allowed me to heal from anxiety and depression by becoming more grounded in the present moment. In my teaching I encourage my students to explore their physical and emotional boundaries developing a greater sense of self awareness. I teach slow flow alignment based Hatha yoga classes with longer holdings and a strong emphasis on breath. My challenging (both physically and mentally) classes allow students to build strength, flexibility and focus whilst simultaneously releasing emotional tension and creating space, openness and acceptance. Yoga and meditation have become especially important to me since becoming a mum. These practices allow me to face challenges of motherhood from a place of calm and clear perspective.
