Have you heard of the wonderful Kid & Coe ? It is an amazing holiday rental website with hand-picked stylish family-friendly destinations around the world. You will find private homes with everything you need for a toddler...to boutique hotels in unique destinations (with child-pleasing restaurant menus)...plus insight from local parents about how to get the best out of their destination. The Kid & Coe crew have searched out the very best in family travel accommodation around the world, so you don’t have to!
Founder Zoie Kingsbery Coe is the brilliant mama behind Kid & Coe. For years she had been traveling the world with her musician husband, and when she started travelling with her children, she saw that hotel accommodations that suited a touring couple no longer worked with a growing family. Zoie began seeking out child-friendly property rentals that made her family feel at home wherever they were in the world. And so Kid & Coe was born.
Here Zoie shares her must-visit destination list for families in 2017:
Sunshine, beaches, rugged coastline and stunning modern interior design, not to mention fantastic value - Portugal is one of our favourite countries in Europe and it’s time the rest of the world knew it. Lisbon’s cobbled streets and red roofs make great pictures, and its aquarium has been voted the best in the world, complete with enormous sunfish and cuddly sea otters. From city pads to architect-designed villas in the middle of the Alentejo’s dark sky zones, our Portugal properties get a thumbs up for 2017.
Tip: Try every form of transport you can in Lisbon just for fun - the kids will love it. The yellow tram, the bus, the funicular, you name it...
Wide vistas, mountains, glassy lakes and those moose - Canada hit the spotlight in 2016 as the country a lot of people want to move to, and its potential for a fantastic family vacation is worth highlighting too. This year sees Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation with events around the country making it even more appealing. Our properties in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto include loft apartments, town houses and cabins plus all the amenities to help your family feel at home.
Tip: Flights from Europe are becoming great value - and flights on Icelandair and Wow could be the best of the bunch, with a short stay or stopover in Iceland included.
3. LOS ANGELES
Lonely Planet has tipped LA as one of its cities of the year 2017 and we can’t disagree. Whether you’re looking for beaches, city living, a sustainable lifestyle or the bright lights of Hollywood, you’ll find it here, along with plenty of family fun and sunshine. Virgin Atlantic is adding a third direct daily flight to the city from London through the summer, making it an even better bet for Europeans looking for a slice of Californian city living. Our properties include grand residences in the Hollywood Hills, beachfront homes by Venice Beach’s colourful Abbot Kinney Boulevard and instagram-ready homes overlooking the cliffs of Malibu.
Tip: Research before you go. Los Angeles is a vast, sprawling city so make sure you’re in the right area for what you plan to visit and do on arrival - otherwise you’ll spend a lot of vacation time spent in traffic.
Our growing collection in Australia and New Zealand includes a property with koalas in the back yard, and multiple beachfront apartments on Bondi Beach, as well as a series of family homes in Melbourne. We’re excited to have hosted Courtney Adamo of Babyccinokids.com in Byron Bay as part of her family’s world tour last year - the trip was so successful that they have now relocated there from London for good. If you want a taste of Australian living, complete with surf lessons, thongs and unique wildlife, look no further. It could be life changing for you, too...
Tip: Twin a stay in Melbourne with a trip to Sorrento. This pretty town is just an hour and a half from the city offers the chance to go sea kayaking with dolphins or horse riding along the beach.
5. NEW ORLEANS
New direct flights from London to the Big Easy, starting at the end of March on British Airways, will be making the city of jazz music and Mardi Gras even more accessible for Europeans. They will be the first direct flights from Europe to the city and offer a chance to taste famous Creole cooking and beignets, ride streetcars, try on Mardi Gras costumes at the Mardi Gras Museum and explore voodoo at the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum. Or just kick back and enjoy the music.
Tip: Kids can take a turn at piloting a tug boat at the highly interactive Louisiana Children’s Museum.
